Supporting Patients During Breast Cancer Awareness Month
September 25, 2020
For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Ooze Foundation collected 100% of the proceeds made from each and every pink products sold in the month of October. Ooze Wholesale is a Metro Detroit-based manufacturer and wholesale distributor of cannabis accessories. This is the second year Ooze has chosen the Shades of Pink Foundation as the beneficiary of their breast cancer-related charitable efforts.
As many of us know, a breast cancer diagnosis is a massive financial undertaking. While so many women are forced to choose between making a mortgage or car payment and taking on the next round of treatment, the approaching holiday season can add an entirely new level of stress to the pile. This makes October an ideal time to complete a project that can ease the pain of those suffering.
“The Shades of Pink Foundation was an easy choice for us, because we value the work they do to directly benefit the families in our community,” said Ooze Wholesale Marketing Director Eddie Koury. “Several of us here have family members who have gone through breast cancer treatment and we completely understand the hardships these families are going through. It was a logical choice for us to take on this project again this year, and we’re ecstatic to be able to help multiple families over the holidays.”
This is the second year now that Ooze Wholesale has collected pink proceeds throughout October, for the benefit of the Shades of Pink Foundation. To spread the word, Ooze enlisted the help of multiple influencers across Instagram. This promotion really seemed to hit home with Ooze customers, who racked up a total of $4,800 to be donated!
Numerous customers and Instagram followers reached out to Ooze throughout October with their own stories as a survivor, or relative of a survivor. Some were inspired to purchase a pink product for a family member or friend they know currently in treatment. Cannabis has proven to be successful in combating nausea and other negative side effects from treatment. It puts a smile on our faces to know that an Ooze product may brighten up someone’s dark day of treatment.
The harsh, unfortunate truth is that roughly 3,500 women will have been diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Of those ladies, about 80% of them will lose their job due to not having enough sick days for appointments and recovering from treatments. Job loss means insurance loss in a lot of cases, which causes the costs of treatment to skyrocket. Combine those factors with everyday bills and expenses, it’s an exhausting, stressful road to navigate.
Ooze Wholesale’s $4,800 donation will directly benefit at least four Metro Detroit families this holiday season. This should cover a mortgage payment, or transportation costs, or groceries for the whole family. With basic needs covered, it gives families a chance to experience a more-normal holiday season, and allow them to truly enjoy their time spent together.
On December 19th 2021, the Ooze Foundation hosted the third annual Oozemas Holiday Toy Drive for underprivileged kids in the Detroit community. This year we were able to give out 1000 gifts which is the most gifts to date! Learn more about the event in this blog!
The Ooze Foundation is dedicated to giving back to the community through philanthropic events and monetary donations. Every year, we have been able to increase the size of our donations to causes that help support Michigan residents who need it most.
The annual Thanksgiving “Oozegiving” food drive was a huge success! This year, we were able to give out full turkey dinners to 300 families. This is 50 more dinners than last year! The Ooze Foundation is proud to contonue to serve the Detroit Community.
